The palette above groups independent letters first, then vowel signs, other marks and numbers. Put the cursor in the Marathi output before selecting a button. A selected range is replaced; otherwise the character is inserted at the cursor. The palette’s Delete button removes the preceding text character as a whole, which can include combining signs. Undo restores an accidental insertion or deletion. Selecting a vowel sign alone does not create a complete syllable: it needs an appropriate base letter.
English to Marathi typing keyboard chart
Read each row from the Roman keys to the output. Alternatives separated by a slash are separate choices; do not type the slash. Capital letters matter: T and Th are different from t and th, while L differs from l. A longer recognised sequence takes precedence over a shorter one. For example, sh is one token, while Lh is the combination L followed by h and produces ळ्ह. It is not a separate letter in the map.
These tables cover every vowel, consonant and mark token currently supported by this converter. They are an implementation reference, not a claim about a universal alphabet count. The example column uses short practice units, including some that are not standalone Marathi words. Vowels show their independent letter and the sign used after a consonant. In the first row, a keeps the consonant’s inherent vowel without adding a visible sign. Use the English to Marathi typing editor and correction guide for a complete writing workflow.

|---|---|---|---|
M | ं | maM → मं | Anusvara; choose from the intended spelling. |
~ | ँ | ma~ → मँ | Chandrabindu; not interchangeable with anusvara. |

Lh → ळ्ह
namaskaar → नमस्कार
Marathi keyboard for PC, mobile and online use
Use this website when you want to write in a browser without installing a keyboard. Its Download .txt button exports your writing; it does not download a keyboard, app, font pack or browser extension. Conversion runs locally after the editor loads, but opening or reloading the website still needs a network connection. This release does not provide an installable offline app. Download important work before closing the page.
For Marathi input throughout Windows, Microsoft’s official Marathi input instructions explain how to add Marathi under Time & language, then choose the required keyboard in Language options. Windows offers distinct InScript and phonetic options. Selecting one does not require changing your display language. Follow the official instructions for your version rather than installing a file from an unrelated download advertisement.
On a Mac, look in the system keyboard settings for available input sources. On a phone, look in the current keyboard’s language settings. Availability and menu labels depend on the operating system and keyboard app. If you install another app, use its official store listing and review the permissions it requests. You can also enter Marathi directly in this page’s output box; the device keyboard and this website’s Roman mapping remain separate input methods.
Marathi keyboard layout: phonetic, InScript and Remington
A phonetic input method starts from Roman letter sequences. This website uses a fixed, case-sensitive map; other phonetic keyboards may offer dictionaries and candidate words instead. Microsoft’s Marathi phonetic IME, for example, provides suggestions. Do not expect identical Roman spellings or identical correction behaviour across products just because both describe themselves as phonetic. Learn the conventions of the tool you actually use.
InScript is a layout with particular keys for particular script characters. Microsoft’s official example types बाग using the US keyboard positions y, e and i in its Marathi InScript layout. Those keys do not mean the same thing in this site’s converter. The clickable palette is grouped for finding characters, not for learning those physical positions. A font also does not determine the keyboard: the same Unicode text can be entered through different methods.
If a training provider specifies Remington or another named layout, obtain that exact layout chart and compatible practice software. This page does not implement it. For an examination, the organiser’s current instructions determine the accepted keyboard, software, timing and marking rules. There is no safe assumption that all government tests use one layout. Our Marathi typing test offers informal practice, not evidence that an exam will accept your chosen method.
Marathi vowels, consonants and vowel signs
Separate three things when reading the chart: an independent vowel letter, a consonant, and a dependent vowel sign. The independent आ can stand at the beginning of a syllable. The sign ा attaches to a consonant, as in का. They look related but are not interchangeable characters. The converter chooses the appropriate form from the surrounding tokens, so aa alone and kaa do not create the same kind of sequence.
A consonant can retain an inherent vowel without an extra visible mark. In this converter k produces क, and ka also produces क. Adding i makes कि; adding ii makes की. The short i sign is displayed before its base, but it is stored after that consonant in Unicode. Type the consonant first, then the vowel. Do not try to reproduce the visual position by placing the sign before the base in the text.
The Unicode Devanagari specification explains this distinction between stored characters and rendered forms. A keyboard reference is not a complete pronunciation course. For unfamiliar words, check the spelling with a reliable Marathi source or a fluent reader; the table cannot choose the word you intend.
Marathi characters that need particular keys
Use L for ळ and l for ल. They are distinct characters, so substituting one for the other changes the written result. The checked spelling shaaLaa produces शाळा. Use R for ऱ; the palette also offers an explicit eyelash-ra sequence. Its appearance can depend on the font and neighbouring characters. Do not add invisible joiners simply to imitate a screenshot without understanding the required spelling.
The ae and ao tokens produce ॲ and ऑ on their own, and the matching vowel signs after a consonant. Ri produces ऋ or its dependent sign. The shortcuts ksh and kSh produce क्ष, while dny and jny produce ज्ञ. These shortcuts do not establish an alphabet count. The palette also includes ॐ, ऽ and Devanagari digits. Ordinary digits typed in the Roman box remain ordinary digits; select ०–९ from the palette when those forms are needed.
Build a Marathi syllable, one character at a time
For a palette exercise, insert क followed by ा and compare the result का. Start again with क, then ्, then त to create क्त. The virama suppresses the inherent vowel and allows a consonant cluster. Whether it appears as a half-form, a ligature or a visible sign depends on the characters and font. Different appearances do not automatically mean that the underlying text is wrong.
In the Roman box, adjacent consonant tokens join automatically: kta gives क्त. Insert a between them to separate their syllables: kata gives कत. For a final explicit virama, k^ gives क्. If a vowel follows that explicit virama, this converter replaces it with the appropriate vowel construction: k^i gives कि. Use these as controlled experiments, then return to a word whose correct spelling you know.
Common mistakes with a Marathi typing keyboard
When a result looks wrong, inspect one small part before replacing the whole sentence. Check short i against long ii, lowercase t against capital T, and l against L. Then check whether a missing a accidentally joined two consonants. The spelling namaskaar needs its long aa; copying a casual Roman spelling from a message is not always enough for a deterministic converter.
Anusvara ं and chandrabindu ँ are separate marks, available through M and ~. Choose the mark required by the word rather than treating both as decoration. After direct output corrections, the editor protects your Marathi text from further Roman changes. Preview the conversion before choosing Use converted text. If the problem appears only after pasting elsewhere, check the destination’s font and encoding before altering a correct word. The Marathi typing homepage remains available for everyday writing.
Marathi typing keyboard FAQ
Is this palette arranged like an InScript keyboard?
No. Its buttons group characters for visual selection. They do not reproduce the positions of a physical InScript keyboard. The Roman chart documents this website’s own conversion keys. Use the official chart for your installed layout when practising physical key positions.
Where is the Marathi keyboard download?
This page has no keyboard installer, APK or extension download. Download .txt saves your writing only. For input across other apps, add a Marathi input method through your operating system or a trusted keyboard app, then read that provider’s setup instructions.
Which layout should I use for a government typing exam?
Check the current notice and practice software supplied by that exam’s organiser. Required layouts, fonts, timing and correction rules can differ. Do not assume that phonetic input, InScript, Remington or this website is accepted simply because the output is Marathi.
Why does text pasted into Word show boxes?
First select a font with Devanagari support and check that the pasted text is Unicode. If the source uses an old font encoding, changing its font alone is not a reliable conversion. This palette produces Unicode; it does not decode legacy font files.
How can I use the palette on a phone?
Place the cursor in the Marathi output, then tap the required character. The page inserts it at that selection. Alternatively, use your device’s Marathi keyboard in the output box. Device keyboard settings and available layouts depend on the keyboard and system version.
Does this support every Devanagari character and spelling?
No. The tables list this converter’s supported tokens, and the palette displays its selectable characters. Additional characters can be entered with a device keyboard or pasted into the output. A matching conversion verifies these keys, not the spelling or meaning of every possible word.
